Project: Island Home

Neighborhood: Mercer Island, WA

Status: Design Completed, in Process

Building Type: Single Family Custom Residential

This custom modern single family house was designed by b9 architects

Inspired by the amazing view of Lake Washington and the Seattle skyline beyond, the primary living spaces in this 6,000 square foot home are located one floor up from the entry level, taking advantage of the scenic perspective. the design features a complex arrangement of individual volumes organized around two circulation spines, one connecting the entry to the main living spaces to open up the view. the second, more private, circulation pathway connects the main floor bedroom area to the top floor.

Horizontal projections that vary in depth extend from the western facade and create strong datums and shelter over outdoor living spaces. Island Homes is a modern, three story house built on a private, southwest facing, sloping lot. The four-bedroom, three and a half bath house, repsonds to the topography and is oriented to maximize views to the west and access to daylight. In addition, a large garage below the house is set into the slope to minimize its impact on the parcel.
