why we work

excellence

b9 architects prides itself on designing and helping clients execute the highest quality projects. Rather than stamp one designed project over every site that comes across our desk, b9 creates a project specifically to the site’s constraints, and client’s goals.

Our proactive approach to each municipality’s entitlement process, and our years of experience with Seattle’s Permit and Design Review programs, helps us improve the quality of our projects in each iteration.

collaboration

A key value of b9 architects, collaboration is fundamental to our company culture and success. From consultants, to clients, to City officials, the project design process can and should benefit from a variety of specialties, expertise and points of view. Early engagement and active conversations with each neighborhood’s community also often benefits and brings value to the project.

Internally, each of b9’s architectural staff is focused on every aspect of the  project. Rather than handing out sketches for others to achieve, each member of the team is expected to actively participate in conceptual and schematic design, project documentation, and the entitlement process.

forward-thinking

What can we do now to ensure success tomorrow? b9 architects is a studio of innovators. Our internal technology environment allows us to be flexible and work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection. Our approach to project design ensures that we are constantly learning about new strategies, opportunities, and code changes.

We believe that urbanity, responsible density, equitable design and care for the environment are fundamental for the future of our home, our work, and our industry.

community

b9 Architects actively engages the community in many ways. Many of our projects participate in a public design review process, contributing to an important dialog about design in our city.  Recognizing the importance of communal experience, we encourage opportunities for interaction, both planned and spontaneous, in all our projects.  We are looking forward to re-opening our studio space, located in a storefront in Pioneer Square, Seattle’s first historic district, to participate in the First Thursday art walk, and other public events.

Bradley Khouri, Principal of b9 architects, dedicates time outside of the practice to advocate on critical urban design and planning issues affecting the community in Seattle. He regularly engages the City of Seattle on best utilizing their Design Review process.
