Two journeys are contained within this project -
The green passage connects street level to the earth of Ground Zero, bending down at the center of its length to touch the ground. Also at its center is a shift in plan, section and surface color (green to gray) that expresses the collision endured by the site through the collapse of lives and buildings. The vertical end of the gray passage is physically and visually enclosed, the only closed space in the project. 3016 impressions are left in the ground surface of the gray passage, each one slightly different, specific to each soul who died at this site because of the acts of terrorism.
The red passage connects street level to a view of Ground Zero from above, bending up at the center of its length to hover fifty feet over the ground. Also at its center is a shift in plan, section and surface color (red to orange), reaching up to embrace light and sky, expressing the life and spirit of the optimistic, loving human condition. 3016 windows are opened in the end of the orange passage, each one identical, celebrating the same true connection that links every soul to all that is life.
